All Better!

Thanks for all of the nice wishes everyone! Alan and I were only really sick for about 24 hours. I haven't been sick like that since high school and I forgot how rotten it is. It took Spencer longer to get over his, but we're all better now. Best of all, Spencer and I still get to go to AZ. After a lot of finagling and hassle, my parents were able to book new flights for us. Thanks Mom and Dad! We missed Lindsey's graduation, but my two sisters from Provo are still there so it should be really great. I just wish it wasn't so hard to get to St. Johns so I could go more often. We're leaving Alan here all alone and I feel pretty bad about that. I stocked the fridge and freezer today though, so hopefully he'll survive. :)

Here's Spencer playing in my half-packed suitcase. It's been sitting like that for a week now.

Birthday Sickies...again

Ok, I just need to vent. Yesterday was Alan's birthday and things were going great until about 4:30. That's when he started feeling sick and lost his lunch in the trash can under his desk. We bagged our going-out-to-eat plans and just came home. Alan hugged the toilet seat while I took care of Spencer. But as soon as I got Spencer to bed, I was running for the toilet too. Alan and I were up most of the night, spending more time in the bathroom than in bed. Spencer was throwing up too, but he just sleeps through it and in it. Poor guy! (He has actually been a little sick since Monday.) Now, while being that sick is totally miserable, the worst part is that Spencer and I were supposed to be flying to AZ today for my little sister's high school graduation. I was super excited to spend a week with my family and have some adults to talk to, but decided that flying when both of us were sick was a bad idea. So, I'm not going to AZ. Instead I'm sipping apple juice, tending a sick little boy and doing lots of disgusting laundry. Sorry Lindsey. Congratulations and we really wish we could be there for your big day. Spencer was sick on his own birthday and now this. I can hardly wait to see what happens on my birthday in a few weeks.

Picnic Season!!

Alan and I have always loved to go on picnics and we officially opened our picnic season for the year last Saturday. I think it was about 85 degrees here which shouldn't feel that hot to an Arizona girl, but I'm afraid I've turned into a heat wimp living in the Northwest. Anyway, we just went to a park close to our apartment and had a great time. Spencer had already eaten his lunch so he just played on the blanket while Alan and I ate. He doesn't freak out when his bare feet touch grass, but he still never even tried to get off the blanket. There were lots of kids and small airplanes taking off from our little airport for him to watch. It was so relaxing and nice to be outside. There will be many more picnics to come this summer. Spencer is really close to walking (he took 4 or 5 steps by himself on Sunday) and I'm sure we'll have even more fun when he can run around and play on the playground. I LOVE SUMMER!

Big Boy!

I love how proud he is of himself. Moments like this make up for the missed sleep from teething pain and constant messes. I love being a mom!!

Portland Children's Museum

On Friday, Spencer and I joined my sister-in-law, her three cute girls and my mother-in-law on a trip to the Children's Museum in Portland. We were able to check out cultural passes from our libraries so most of us got in free. Yippee! I hadn't ever been to a children's museum before, but I have to say that I was pretty impressed. Every exhibit was great. My nieces are 7, 5 and 2 and they all had a fabulous time. Spencer was a little young for most of the exhibits, but they did have a special room just for babies from 0-36 months. It was really nice that it was a separate room because it was a little over-whelming with all of the older kids tearing around the rest of the museum.

Tasting the wall while watching the fish.

Sooo thirsty! This was Spencer's favorite part of the whole museum. It was a little stream in the babies' room. There were paint brushes in it and the idea was for the kids to "paint" the rocks with water, but Spencer just liked to get his hands wet and lick them. (I'm working on weaning him right now, but he still doesn't like to drink much from a cup so the poor guy gets really thirsty. Hopefully he'll get thirsty enough that he decides cups aren't so bad soon.)

Spencer and Grandma Rasmussen in the water room. I thought this was the coolest room. The kids all put little aprons on and then got to play with several different water features. Too bad Spencer wasn't quite old enough for this one.

Forget the tracks. Trains are more fun to throw!

Eating lunch after a hard day of playing.

We had a great time. Thanks for inviting us to come with you Chasten!
