One of my favorite Christmas gifts from last Christmas was this illustrated calendar that Mason made in school. The pictures are hilarious and this leprechaun for March is my very favorite. It's hanging on our fridge and I smile every single time I look at it. Hooray for March and the hope of spring!
We picked the boys up from school about an hour early on Wednesday and wanted to leave right away, but Mason started throwing up from eating a greasy cheeseburger for hot lunch. Ugg. Thankfully, he didn't feel bad for long and we were able to leave just a little later than planned.
It was all of our first times at Great Wolf Lodge so we didn't quite know what to expect. The water park was fun and not super crowded which was really nice. Mason loved the thrilling Tornado slide. Spencer did not. We went down all of the slides lots of times and the boys loved the wave pool.
After we got tired of swimming for the day, we got dinner at a nearby restaurant and then got Mason a wand and started on a quest. He loved it at first, but it was a little too long and complicated for him so we never finished.
We all slept until 7 on Thursday morning which is super later for me and was really nice. We spent a few more hours in the water park, did a little more work on Mason's quest, played a round of mini golf, and got a treat. Spencer was having a band concert that evening so we left the lodge around 2:00.
I can't say that I'm dying to go back, but it was a fun, little break from regular life and just nice to spend some time as a family without distractions.
Spencer had his first of many weekly track meets in March. He runs the distance races (1500 and 3000) and the 400x100 relay just for fun sometimes. He ran a 4:51 1500 meter at this meet.
Mason finished up his second session of swim lesson in Newberg towards the end of March. He made some good progress and will continue working towards passing off level 3 in the summer.
Sunday sick day for Mason. I stayed home with him and watched Sacrament meeting on Zoom.
Spencer doesn't have too much of a teenager attitude yet, but he has started napping like a teen on Sunday afternoons. His long days just catch up to him and it's really nice that he has that down time to recharge.
Opening new Pokemon cards is always exciting!
Mason had his first live school music concert! (Because of continued Covid restrictions, they just sent home a video of the performance last year.) Mason sings all of the time while playing by himself at home, but doesn't like singing during FHE or in primary so I didn't know what he'd do during the concert. He did good though and sang most of the songs. They did some fun ones and it was a cute program.
I can't remember what the super sad face was about, but Mason was excited to try to catch a leprechaun again this year. His trap didn't work, but Freckles O'Gold still left green footprints around the house, and Lucky Charms, gold coin chocolates, and fun socks for the boys. We had our traditional St. Patrick's Day dinner a couple of days late on a day I had time to make the Irish beef stew and soda bread.
And, hooray for a teen who can mow the lawn for me when the ground is dry enough.
I volunteered to help with one of Spencer's home track meets. I signed up to help at the timing trailer since Alan was timing it, but there really wasn't much at all for me to do besides stand around and freeze for several hours. Don't let this picture fool you. It really wasn't warm and Mason put pants, his jacket, and gloves on before long. He is much easier to photograph than a running Spencer though. :) Spencer ran the 1500 in 4:50 this time. Just barely a PR. In fact, it is now April 21 and he has gotten a PR at every meet so far!
Spencer's Teacher's Quorum spent a handful of activities making these bows and arrows. I think they had a lot of fun with them.
Hooray for play dates and semi-nice days! Mason and Lincoln are good buddies.
