Happy Love Day!

Alan, Spencer and I had a  lovely Valentine's Day together.  Here's how we celebrated:
Breakfast:
Raspberry heart muffins

Gorgeous tullips:
Alan always gives me my Valentine's flowers a day or two early and this year I finally asked him why.  He said he didn't like buying them on Valentine's Day with all of the other last-minute shoppers.  I guess he wanted me to know that he had put some thought into it.  I forgot to take pictures of the rose petals he sprinkled around our bedroom.  Impressive!

Valentine's Dinner:
Berry-stuffed french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and pink smoothie by candle-light.

These mystery message hearts were a big hit with Spencer.  I just wrote messages on white hearts with white crayons.  Then he had to watercolor paint them to discover the message.

I'm so blessed to have these two special Valentine's in my life.  They treat me so well.  Whenever I'm feeling down, I think about my boys and I smile.   I hope all of you had a wonderful day too!

Tradition worth keeping?

Every year I make hear-shaped sugar cookies for Valentine's Day and every year I wonder why I keep doing it.  A year is just long enough to forget how much work it is.

Spencer was a better helper this year than in years past and making them with him was fun.  He helped make the dough with the M&M's measuring spoons Alan got him in Vegas.  Then he helped cut out a few cookies and put them on the pans.  He even attempted frosting a few of the cookies and loved putting candy on them for decorations.

However, after spending the majority of two days in the kitchen making these and a few other things, I still wound up a little grouchy.  But how can I not make them again next year when I wind up with cute pictures of a happy little boy like these:
