May

May was filled with lots of track for Alan and Spencer, but I will save those details for another post. Here's the rest of what we did:

Mother's Day hand print towels and cards: We turned the hand prints into flowers and they each wrote their names on the towels. They turned out so cute that I had the boys make one for me too!

Grandpa Rasmussen's birthday!

Last preschool field trip of the year! We went to a small airport where the kids got to sit in a plane, watch a few take off and land, and have a picnic lunch. Mason was feeling extra shy that day for some reason and didn't want to sit in the plane. I think he still had fun with his friends though. This actually turned out to be the last preschool of the year since our end of year party got postponed and then just never happened at all. I am a little disappointed about that. It was such a lame way to end a good year for Mason. He started out great, had some separation anxiety in the middle, but ended strong. He learned a lot and made some good friends. Preschool was really good for him socially, emotional, and educationally. Despite the anti-climatic ending, I'm really glad we did a co-op for his first year. It was the right amount of structure and separation for Mason at this age.

As much as Kiki drives me nuts with her impatience to be fed and walking on my counters, the boys do love her and are cute with her.

Spencer used some of his birthday money to purchase this storage box for sorting his Lego's.

Mason took a nose-dive down our steep stairs and got some nice carpet burns on his face. I didn't see him fall, but it sounded terrifying so I'm very grateful he didn't get hurt worse.

These are the only two pictures I took on Mother's Day this year. It had been a nice day and we had Darwin and Debbie over for a bbq in the evening. Dinner was delicious and we were just chatting in the backyard when Spencer told me that Kiki was peeing in the sandbox. I told Spencer to get her out so he walked towards her and clapped his hands and she went feral on him. She clawed his legs over and over as he tried to run away. Kiki had never done anything like that before so it was very unexpected and shocking. Darwin and I both went running towards the attack and finally scared Kiki away from Spencer. Alan had been in the house cleaning up. It was over by the time he got outside, but he chased Kiki over the fence.

Because Spencer had so many puncture wounds from a cats dirty claws, we decided it would be best to take him into urgent care. We thought he might need to be put on antibiotics. Our urgent care wasn't busy that evening and we got in right away. They cleaned his wounds really well and gave him the tetanus shot that he was due for, but decided to wait and see if any infection developed before putting him on antibiotics. Thankfully, all of the wounds healed up quickly and nicely with no infection. I was a little worried about Kiki's very unusual behavior, but she was back to normal when we got home and hasn't acted strangely at all since then. I guess she just really didn't like to be bugged while doing her business!

Enjoying spring in the front yard:

Alan turned 39 this year! He got his favorite meal (lasagna) with his favorite cake (German's Chocolate) at his parent's house on Sunday.

He had to work on his birthday, but took a break to come home, read a story to Mason, and go out to lunch with us. He always chooses Red Robin.

Alan got to open his presents after he got home in the evening. Since he is going backpacking with the scouts for a week in July, he needed a backpacking tent. Mason picked out some awesome Batman socks for him to wear to church and Spencer got him a new backpack for his laptop and everything else he carries around all the time. Alan works so hard for our family and still manages to be a great husband and father. We are so lucky to have him!

A morning nap after waking up super early one day. He got back into bed and fell asleep again right after breakfast. Haha!

Mason loves to hunt for "critters" in the back yard and calls them his friends.

Spencer and I ran the Uberthon's Spring 5k at the very end of the month. Debbie was so kind and watched Mason for me since he is too big for the stroller now. Spencer really wanted a PR this race. He had been training hard in track so I knew he could do it. I ran the whole thing with him and pushed him at the end. He finished in 24:31, setting a new PR by about one and a half minutes! Spencer gets better at running each year and has really started to enjoy it this year. It's fun to share something Alan and I enjoy so much with him. I just wish we had taken a selfie together!
