We began a two-week trip to Utah the day after Father's Day. Boise is a perfect almost-halfway stopping place and it's so convenient that Alan's brother Geoff and his family live there now! It was a hot day so we took the kids swimming at the neighborhood pool after dinner. They have such a fun, uncrowded pool that I almost jumped in myself! Braden, Nathan and Evan were doing all kinds of crazy tricks in the deep section, but Spencer and Kaitlyn mostly hung out in the shallow water. They are about 8 months apart and play so well together. The only bad part was that the bottom of the pool was pretty rough and Spencer had rubbed off a decent amount of skin on the pads of his fingers and toes by the time we were finished two-hours later. :(
After checking out a race course in Boise, we drove down to Salt Lake on Tuesday. We stayed with Elise and Eric for one night before the reunion officially began. Those of us who could, met at Temple Square Wednesday morning. It's always a lovely place to tour or try to throw Alicia in the reflecting pool!
Spencer and Ryan were really excited to ride the Trax. We only road for 2-3 blocks before changing trains to go back to where we started, but check out that look of pure joy on Spencer's face! He was in heaven!
Ryan is 3.5 now and is a good buddy for Spencer. They share a love of Thomas the train.
We made our way to a cabin in Heber City where everyone met up later that afternoon. It was AWESOME and the very best place for a family reunion, in my opinion. This cabin had 7 rooms with 40 beds! All 30 of us (minus one: Grant couldn't get off work :( and plus two: Uncle Brent and Grandpa Rasmussen stayed for two days) could stay comfortably under one roof. I can't say enough about how much fun it was to have everyone together. I hardly saw Spencer because he was so busy playing with cousins. We did some fun activities, but spent a lot of time just hanging out at the cabin - which was perfect. Reunions are for visiting family, not sight-seeing.
After dinner, we had a family talent show. Baby Kaylee attempted to roll over for us and Caralee's family made an awesome video and wrote a song about their year. Spencer showed everyone how fast he could run across the room.
Then we all got our reunion shirts. I'd say these are the best ones yet. Good job Grandpa!
