Mason actually turned four months old over two weeks ago, but I'm still trying to catch up. As much as we adored him and were so incredibly grateful he was here, his first three months of life were pretty fussy. He's rather high-maintenance, mostly because he's so social and doesn't like to be alone at all. While those qualities have been a little challenging, they have allowed me lots of time to snuggle, hold and play with this sweetheart. Mason entered a new phase when we got back from our Christmas trip, however, and suddenly became this happy, delightful, little guy. I am loving all of the smiles, squeals, and occasional laughter we get now. Four months is such a fun stage!
At his well-child check last week, Mason weighed 14 lbs 11 oz (38%) and was 25.5 inches long (65%). The doctor called him a "long string bean." He doesn't look that long or skinny to me though. Mason is perfectly healthy and the only area of concern was the flatness of the back of his head. We need to do more tummy time to help correct that.
Mason can hold and play with toys fairly well now, but his favorite toys are his fingers and feet. His fingers have become invaluable self-soothers last night and today as we have begun sleep training. Mason was sleeping through the night quite well before Christmas, but wakes up at random times now and he rarely naps for more than 30 minutes at a time. So, we decided he needed to learn how to put himself to sleep rather than be rocked to sleep each time. It hasn't been as painful as I expected so far and my fingers are crossed that it will continue that way.
Mason really likes to sit up so I borrowed a Bumbo chair. He can't sit up straight in it for very long and is uncomfortable when he slumps over so he doesn't love it yet. He does still love sitting in the laundry basket or propped on the couch though.
Aunt Katelyn made him this adorable cardigan and onsie with interchangeable bow-ties. He LOVES to eat the ties so they are like built-in toys!
Mason really likes to be outside now and we go on frequent walks or runs with the jogging stroller. He likes to smile at himself in the mirror too. He usually sits on Alan's lap during dinner and gives me the best smiles across the table. He is getting a little better in the car and doesn't cry every single time we put him in anymore. Whew! Mason does not like putting his arms through sleeves, tummy time, or being alone.
Spencer is such an awesome big brother and loves to kiss and play with Mason. It just gets better and better as Mason is able to interact more and more. We have a lot of fun to look forward to with these two!

He is just so cute! I think he gets cuter every time I see a picture. :) I am glad that he is doing okay with the going back to sleep on his own thing. That must be challenging!
